Comprehensive review

TIO Markets is a relatively new CFD & forex broker established in 2019 and based out of the UK, and with an unregulated offshore branch registered in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

As usual, EU-based traders will as a general rule be signed up with the UK-registered branch and thus be subject to regulations from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). However, it is also known that TIO Markets allows European traders to sign up with the branch based in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and thus avoid ESMA’s regulatory restrictions on trading leverage and other things.

Although it does not have the very best selection, TIO Markets has done a fairly good job when it comes to the number of trading instruments it offers. The range of assets includes everything from the usual major and minor forex pairs, to commodities, single shares of US-listed companies, and major share indices from across the world.

For those trading with the offshore branch in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, a few cryptocurrencies are also available for trading, in addition to the other assets mentioned above. In the UK, however, crypto trading is still not available.

All of the assets offered by TIO Markets are traded as contracts-for-difference (CFDs) with a leverage of up to 1:200.

Despite being a fairly new broker, TIO Markets has chosen to rely solely on the two legendary trading platforms MetaTrader 4 (MT4) and MetaTrader 5 (MT5), developed by the Russian firm MetaQuotes Software in 2005 and 2010, respectively. Both of these platforms, however, still offer traders a wide selection of advanced tools to help in their trading, including a huge number of technical trading indicators and strategies. Both platforms also allow users to code their own such indicators and strategies with the help of a proprietary scripting language, known as MQL.

In terms of account types, TIO Markets offers four different choices:
– Standard Account, with $6 commission/lot
– Signature Account, with $4 commission/lot
– VIP Account, with $2 commission/lot and with a subscription fee of $24.95/month
– VIP Black Account, commission free for a subscription fee of $49.95/month

Among these account types, the VIP Black account is obviously the most beneficial for large traders, although it comes with a rather high fixed monthly subscription fee. However, the VIP Black account also has the tightest spreads, with no mark-up added on the raw spreads from the liquidity providers. According to the broker, this account type offers the best deal for anyone who trades 5 or more lots per month.

All trading accounts with TIO Markets can be funded with either ordinary bank wire transfers, or with major credit & debit cards like Visa and MasterCard. In addition, TIO Markets also accepts the cryptocurrencies Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) as a payment method for making deposits.

Lastly, TIO Markets’ customer service team can be reached via live chat, telegram, or email for anyone who has a question. Unfortunately, however, the broker does not provide any phone number traders can call, and support opening hours are not published anywhere on the website. In general, this is something that does not build credibility and trust between brokers and traders, and we hope this is something TIO Markets will change in the future.

All in all, however, TIO Markets has a selection of assets that should suit most traders, while also making it convenient for new clients as many of them will already be familiar with the MT4 or MT5 platforms. We also appreciate the fact that the broker’s UK-based branch has made the effort to become regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which is normally a good sign for any forex broker.
